After decades of debate in the astronomical community has a team of astronomers using detective work on par with Sherlock Holmes identified the cause of a powerful supernova, which could then explode 400 years ago.

Astronomers could not find the remains of the ordinary star and concluded that there had to be found anywhere else. Another possible explanation could be the collision of two white dwarf stars.
"We knew that the Hubble Space Telescope have the sensitivity to see even the weakest residues from two white dwarf stars, which could be the cause of the explosion," said Bradley Schaefer said in a statement.
"The logic that we used is the same as that of the famous Sherlock Holmes quote: When you have eliminated all the impossible, then what is left, no matter how improbable, drs technologies must be the truth," he said.
For SNR-0509 to 67.5 showed the only, but very unlikely explanation to be that the explosion was due to two white dwarf stars that orbit closer and closer around each other and eventually collided and exploded.
