RSE: You are one of the numerous to the moon pleiad, which makes BH. scientific diaspora. That's what this book is about the Ministry for Human Rights and Refugees, and Monograph of Mechanical Engineering in Sarajevo, which was published on the occasion of 55 years of existence this educational institution, in which the names of 40 world-renowned experts. Does this further proof and your almost daily encounters?
Hanjalić: I will give one a curiosity to illustrate: I was recently at a conference in the US - in, at the University of Texas A & M, on new methods of mathematical modeling in fluid mechanics with emphasis on aeronautics, with a notable participation of representatives of the aviation industry (Boeing, Airbus, Rolls Royce ) and national institutions for Space Studies (NASA, DLR). From four invited plenary speakers (the keynote lecturers), two were originally from the Mechanical Engineering Faculty in Sarajevo. Except for me, it was Branko Basara, who is a PhD started working before the war in Sarajevo and graduated from the City University in London. Branko has long been the Head of Sector Development Advanced simulation technology in the company AVL List in Graz, Austria. And for dinner we sat together with two other invited lecturers, one from Boeing and one professor from Boston; they asked - how come from a small country has you so successful and well-known in this area? Indeed it was a good school, definitely the best in that field, not only in Yugoslavia, but in South East Europe, from which emerged the experts recognized worldwide.
RFE: In addition to being a professor at many universities around the world, you are the winner of prestigious awards in countries with different cultures and religions. Have you at any time felt some suspicion of your origin and whether it is in these awards, it does not matter?
Hanjalić: Indeed, I worked and got recognition in countries with different cultures and religions and all have been received correctly and with respect. After all, in almost all the countries I went to call. This does not mean that neither I, like many other immigrants, have not come across to the moon from time to time on some kind of suspicion, but it is not worth mentioning. Today, especially in developed countries, it is a lot of foreigners of different origins in universities, clinics, in the economy, including state institutions. Rarely when looking at the origin, btine references. The primary criterion is the quality to the moon and success, to the moon which is measured and evaluated. After all, in our country when it comes to sports - football, basketball, handball, .. that we can say that we have integrated into the world flows, leading to the most qualified coaches and players, as there are clear and measurable success criteria - placement. I would like to introduce this practice in the selection, appointment and employment in other spheres. Unfortunately, sport is an exception: see the national party structure and officials in state institutions at all levels, managerial staff in the public poreduzećima, schools, clinics.
Hanjalić: They ask me sometimes if I go to Sarajevo, what the situation is, you can go ahead, whether the consequences of the war are still visible, and so on. But there is not really a serious interest. After all, the I
