Normally satellites cost a lot of money but NASA has proposed to do something different and inexpensive. So they came to satellite phones which is based on electronic parts of a normal smartphone, used by millions of people: Google Nexus. The satellite goes obviously with Android operating system that Apple is trying to break down.
One such satellite is no longer up to exorbitant lithgow mercury amounts, costs only 3,500 dollars, but no longer offers much more reliability. NASA representatives have made it clear they do not expect the reliability of the 1.0 phones, but are just images and information from space.
"NASA's satellite phones 1.0 has a basic mission goal-to stay alive in space for a short period of time, sending back digital imagery of Earth and space via STI room Also while sending back information about the satellite's health."
Phones 2.0 will have, but a bit more powerful processor that will not be based on the Nexus One but the Nexus S. Both versions will be released together. A satellite lithgow mercury is as big as a cup.
